Ak milujete bicykle a váš pes miluje pohyb, je na čase spojiť príjemné s užitočným – vziať psíka na cyklovýlet so sebou. Ak budete dobre vybavení a pripravení, cyklistika bude zábavou nielen pre vás, ale aj pre vášho psieho miláčika. Ako na to?

Je takáto aktivita vhodná pre môjho psa?

Predtým, než prvýkrát vezmete svojho psa „na bicykel“, zvážte, či je jeho zdravotný stav na takúto aktivitu dostatočný – úplne ideálne je vziať psíka k veterinárovi na zdravotnú prehliadku. Beh popri bicykli je záťažou pre kĺby a krvný obeh, preto tento šport nie je vhodný pre staré, choré či obézne zvieratá. S dlhšími výletmi môžu mať problém aj menšie psy. Tie je dobré viezť skôr v nosiči alebo košíku bicykla, prípadne cyklovozíku. Vezmite do úvahy aj plemeno vášho psa. Psíky s dlhými telami alebo krátkymi nohami nie sú stavané na dlhší beh.

Čo všetko potrebujem?

Nielen vy ako cyklista, ale aj váš pes musí byť na ceste videný. Dnes už možno kúpiť reflexné obojky či vesty v každom obchode pre zvieratá. Pre bezpečnú jazdu na bicykli je priam nevyhnuté zaobstarať si držiak (alebo springer) na upevnenie vodítka, čím zabezpečíte, že vám pes nevbehne pod kolesá. Ak plánujte svojho miláčika vziať so sebou na dlhší cyklovýlet, no nechcete, aby celý čas utekal za bicyklom, vyskúšajte cyklovozík pre psy, vďaka ktorému si môže kedykoľvek odpočinúť. V každom prípade nezabudnite na vodu pre seba i pre psa, prípadne malé občerstvenie. Ak idete do prírody, vhodný je aj repelent proti hmyzu a kliešťom.

Aké tempo udržiavať?

Pamätajte na to, že aj pri určovaní tempa je potrebné zohľadniť vek a kondíciu psa, ale aj terén a počasie, v ktorom chcete bicyklovať. Nikdy netlačte na možnosti vášho psa a jeho výdrž budujte pomalším tempom. Počas výletu si tiež nezabúdajte dopriať prestávky. V horúcich dňoch nechajte psíka radšej doma – silné slnko nepoteší jeho srsť a rozpálený asfalt môže ublížiť labkám. Podobne mu neprospievajú ani iné výkyvy počasia, ako napríklad dažde či silný vietor. Po každom výlete skontrolujte psovi labky, či ich nemá poranené.

Kam (ne)jazdiť?

Ak je to možné, vyhnite sa cestám. Okrem toho, že ušetríte psíka od behu na nevhodnom povrchu, minimalizujete aj nebezpečenstvo okoloidúcich áut. Vyberajte si skôr poľné cestičky a cyklochodníky. Vylúčenie ciest z vašej výletnej trasy navyše čiastočne vyrieši otázku legislatívy. Nejasne definovaný zákon totiž hovorí, že cyklista v cestnej premávke nesmie pri jazde viesť psa či iné zviera. Zároveň však treba dodať, že sa vôbec nezmieňuje napríklad o bezpečných držiakoch na vodítko (kedy ruky cyklistu ostávajú voľné), cykloprívesoch či voľnom behu psa.

Kedy začať?

Ak máte doma zdravého dospelého psíka, pokojne aj hneď. V prípade, že sa obávate, že by väčšiu vzdialenosť ešte nezvládol, začnite s jednoduchšími cvikmi a krátkymi trasami. Postupne sa bude jeho kondícia zvyšovať a vy budete mať nového parťáka na cyklovýlety.
